Old Man McCain

John McCain: too old, too angry, too much like George W. Bush.

Palin's ABC Interview

We are only seeing portions, and it doesn't look good. She sounds like a robot, programmed to repeat lines given to her by McCain's foreign policy team. Her depth of knowledge seems incredibly shallow, and she clearly doesn't have a clue what the Bush doctrine is. Like I said, Palin is a female version of George W. Bush.

Watch:

I'm sure she'll get better with more practice, but if she has any blank moments like this during her debate with Biden or upcoming press conferences, she's toast.

It takes a lot of hubris for someone who thinks they can learn U.S. foreign policy in just a few weeks. So far she's only been able to learn pre-programmed responses.

ABC Reports On Palin's Attempts To Ban Books

ABC once again does its job, investigating Sarah Palin's past. Watch this:

The excuse provided by Palin's lackeys is ridiculous. She just wanted to find out the procedure for how books are banned, but its all okay because she never ended up banning any books? You gotta be kidding me.

If that town librarian had not objected to Palin's request, you better believe some books would have been taken off the shelves. And Republicans want Palin to be our next VP?

McCain's Other Wars

I can't imagine anything more frightening right now than a McCain presidency.

Polls

It's funny how when John McCain takes a small lead in a few national polls right after his VP pick and convention, it's a huge story and Democrats should be panicked.

Yet when Barack Obama led in just about every poll from April through August, the talk was about how he wasn't leading by more.

Heads McCain wins, tails Obama loses. It's really ridiculous.

If there was any point in the campaign where McCain would take the lead, now is the time. If he is still leading after Troopergate explodes and after the debates, then it will be time to get worried. Bottom line is that if the election were held tomorrow, at the peak of McCain's popularity this whole campaign season, Obama is still strong enough in the swing states that he has a 50/50 chance of winning. Hell, I'd say he has a better than 50/50 since he is still leading in Colorado, New Mexico, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Iowa. He is even tied in Florida.

Who knows, maybe McCain and Palin will kick ass in the debates. I don't see how that's possible when they are wrong on theside of the issues and must use lies to make their point, but it could happen. In that case Obama would be in trouble.

So bottom line: Obama and Biden have to win their debates. It doesn't get any more basic than that.

Obama Ad Sets Record Straight, Calls McCain and Palin Liars

This is a pretty strong ad, one that has the benefit of being true:

Maybe we live in a country where you can lie every day on the campaign trail and still get away with it. I don't know. There is definitely a double-standard at play, where Republicans can slide on the issue of honesty while Democrats are crucified if they pronounce a name wrong.

But still...people do not like being lied to. And it is long past time for everyone to realize that John McCain and his new running mate are serial liars. If they can't be trusted to tell the truth, they shouldn't be trusted to run the country.

Palin's First Gaffe

The campaign has been keeping her in lockdown, no press interviews, and yet she still manages to go out there and say something dumb:
Gov. Sarah Palin made her first potentially major gaffe during her time on the national scene while discussing the developments of the perilous housing market this past weekend.

Speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." The companies, as McClatchy reported, "aren't taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization."

Economists and analysts pounced on the misstatement, saying it demonstrated a lack of understanding about one of the key economic issues likely to face the next administration.

"You would like to think that someone who is going to be vice president and conceivable president would know what Fannie and Freddie do," said Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research.

To this point she's simply told lies, whether it is about the jet that she falsely claims to have sold on eBay or the earmarks that she sought while mayor and governor. Gaffes are much worse, and I highly doubt this will be her last.

Maybe she'll be able to get through the next three weeks with softball interviews that never challenge the depth of her knowledge or experience. But once the debate with Biden arrives, she has to know this stuff. Good luck.
