Rare Video: Barack Obama Circa 1995
Curious to see what Barack Obama was like before he got into politics?
This rare TV interview from 1995 will give you some insight. One thing is clear - the guy is consistent. He's been talking about post-racial, non-polarized politics for over a decade now.
These clips are from the television show "Connie Martinson Talks Books", and in them Obama discusses his newly published "Dreams From My Father". Obama must have been only 33 or 34 years old at the time, but he was already a thoughtful and eloquent conversationalist. His manner of speaking hasn't changed much over the past thirteen years. Having read Obama's book and heard many of those same stories become fodder in this election, I thought it was great to take a time machine back to 1995 and hear Obama expand upon them outside of a campaign setting.
One can see that Barack Obama was already starting to think about issues of poverty and race in a political context. He mentions the "race card", Rev. Wright, his absent father, and his white grandmother -- all issues that would become oh so relevant here in 2008.
It was also rather tragic to hear him mention his mother, since we know she would succumb to ovarian cancer later that year.
I have decided against providing a synopsis of each portion so that you can be surprised by what you discover. Enjoy!

How can you people be impressed with this?!?! He is a dangerous racist and embraces Rev Wright like a father. And you fools want this racist marxist as President. Scary.
you're a tool
its interesting to see the word racist misappropriated and applied to a man like barack obama. secondly, believe me we are already far away from a "free market" system and have many socialist elements in our economy, the trick is to assist the working class in providing for their families and asking the more successful and wealthy citizens to contribute for the good of the whole society. please criticize barack obama with respect and do not resort to name calling when you have no better information to go on.
This is a great find.....
People have to understand that
even today, we have biggots..
I believe that now more than ever we have all races in low income housing...
I think that these videos have helped me to make my up my mind...
Someone who think the middle class is 250,000 thousand a year is someone who is out of touch with reality and that is the republician party...
The republicians are going to tax my tax free benifits that is a double tax...I cant afford what i have now and doesn't pay till I reach my 5000 deductable...
Again only the wealthy will benifit...I think 250,000 a year is the wealthy..not middle class..
Obama is the best choice for my family and friends.....
McCain is offering us nothing that helps us...
True middle class 40,000-70,000 dollars a year..White....and we are the lucky ones...lots more here making a lot less working 2 jobs...no health insurance..
employers would rather give million dollar bonus's to president and vp of the company,
Than 100.00 dollars or health insurance to us worker bees....
Lets pray that our leaders whoever they may be. To see the needs of us all and not just their needs...
thanks for listening...
So problems in Africa and other places- are like those of our big cities. It is groups against groups and one group does not want to support another's needs-
dangerous ideas.
Are voters happy that Senator Obama is pushing one group to rise up and take what is their right to grab?
Get rid of capitalism- that's the goal- what will instill the energy to grow the economy-
ideas to spur on the invention, start business and hire people?
not a $3000 tax credit to pay new employees new yearly salaries paid from the business.
What is the change people think an Obama presidency will bring?
more fairness? earned or not-
somehow others will be brought down to a lower level, so people are more equal-
we''ll be miserable together- take from achievers and spread it lower.
How does this help people?
Where are the models of success-
jealousy...
See you say things like jealous and low achivers.....
This is not always the case but you cant see anything beyond what you have lived.
I don't want your stuff but to think that employers will pay more is ridiculos they think like you...
It's mine and mine alone...
I am not missrable I don't get upset like you do. I believe that we are all intitled to do what is best for all. I also feel that all this election is doing is showing america that most republicans (used to be one till the last 4 years of absurd comments) really believe that they are the only ones that are not lazy...When you come from money and are taught as a child that those poor people choose to be...
It is hard for you to see the realty that the rich need the poor to do all the stuff they refuse to do.
God will get america through this and I believe that mcCain is a good man but in everything he says and does.. He gives no hope of improvement to the majority of the United States.
I really wanted him to say something that could help everyone.
I am in his middle Class category
250,000 a year but the reality is the middle class is more like 75,000 we have to have blue collar workers. But for you to call them low achivers is wrong.
what about the ones who can't afford to go to college...
Don't give me that their are grants because if you make 40,000 or more there are none...
I served in the Air force for 12 Years. Reagan Years we qualified for Food stamps all 12 Years Achived Ranks sooner than expected in all cases. We never took the food stamps worked side jobs..
I hope that god can forgive all that is being said on both sides including myself at times..
I don't want anyone to suffer or as you put it be misreble together I find it unbeliveable that anyone would think 250.000 a year would be a hard way to live...'
I hope that all of america can benifit in the future...
Nice find. Great Posting
